Federal Express Corp carries express and ground parcels door to door. FedEx Freight carries pallets that fill part of a trailer, with FedEx Custom Critical as part of its suite for time-critical freight. FedEx Office runs retail print and pack-and-ship counters. FedEx Logistics books air and ocean cargo and customs brokerage for businesses. FedEx Dataworks builds internal data tools and never touches a shipment. A FedEx tracking number can belong to any of five different operations, and only two of them ever hand a box to a person off the street.
Federal Express Corporation's own description of its services, on investors.fedex.com and read 2026-08-31, opens with its oldest business: “Federal Express Corporation invented express transportation and remains the industry's global leader, providing rapid, reliable, time-definite delivery to more than 220 countries and territories.” The same page folds ground and residential delivery into that same operating company rather than describing them as a separate one, which is a change from the FedEx Ground most shippers grew up thinking of as its own business.

A sixth name, FedEx Dataworks, shows up in the same investor materials. It builds the data tools the rest of the network runs on and does not carry a shipment for a customer, so it is left off the table above.
FedEx Ground used to be talked about as its own business, separate from FedEx Express. Federal Express Corporation's own investor page, read 2026-08-31, no longer describes it that way: it names the international express network in one sentence and then, in the next, folds residential delivery in under the same company, saying the business “also provides low-cost, day-certain commercial service to any business address in the U.S. and Canada, as well as residential delivery to 100% of U.S. residences through its FedEx Home Delivery® and Ground Economy services.” For a shipper the products themselves have not merged — Ground, Home Delivery, Ground Economy and the Express tiers still carry their own weight limits and timing — but they are now sold out of the same operating company rather than two.

fedexfreight.com's own about page, read 2026-08-31, traces the network back to the 1998 acquisition of Viking Freight, then American Freightways and Watkins Motor Lines, each one adding LTL coverage until the combined network reached the whole country. This is pallet freight, quoted lane by lane, not a per-parcel checkout price.
The same fedexfreight.com history page traces Custom Critical to the Roberts Express acquisition, which it says “evolved into FedEx Custom Critical, paving the way for the suite of service offerings FedEx Freight is known for.” Today that reads as one line in FedEx Freight's own history rather than a separately marketed brand, and time-critical freight through it is quoted directly with FedEx rather than picked from an online rate table.

FedEx's own investor description of the division, read 2026-08-31, lists what the counter actually sells: “copying, digital printing, professional finishing, signs, computer rental, corporate print solutions, packing services, shipping services from Federal Express, and Hold at FedEx Location.” Shipping is one line among several print and pack services, not the counter's main business.
The same investor page describes it as a “comprehensive suite of integrated logistics solutions, providing air and ocean cargo transportation, specialty transportation, customs brokerage, and trade management tools and data, as well as third party logistics and supply chain solutions.” This is a business-to-business booking, priced by a logistics contract rather than a checkout for one box.
Most people who have heard the FedEx Office name have picked up a printed document or dropped off an already-labeled return, not booked freight or cargo through Logistics. Both are real FedEx businesses; neither is what a person searching for a shipping price usually means.
If the box weighs under about 150 lb and fits in a car, it is almost certainly a Federal Express Corp product: Ground, Ground Economy, Home Delivery or an Express tier, all bookable online and all priced side by side with USPS and UPS in SMKlog's own checkout. If it is a pallet, FedEx Freight prices it by quote rather than by a per-box rate. FedEx Office, Custom Critical and Logistics matter only for print counters, exclusive-use freight and business cargo, which most one-box shippers never touch.
FedEx Custom Critical's own dedicated pages (customcritical.fedex.com and fedex.com/en-us/custom-critical.html) returned a server error on every attempt on 2026-08-31, so this page describes Custom Critical only as far as FedEx Freight's own history page does, not from Custom Critical's own service pages. FedEx revises its corporate pages on its own schedule; treat the descriptions above as what those two pages published on the date shown.
