Take it apart before it takes itself apart
Arms off, crystals wrapped alone
Each arm unscrews from the center stem on nearly every fixture built for home use. Pull them, then wrap every hanging crystal on its own in tissue or bubble wrap with a strip of tape to close it. A handful of crystals wrapped together is still crystal touching crystal.
Canopy and chain lie flat
The ceiling plate and any chain or stem nest flat against one interior wall of the box, taped in place so they cannot slide across the arms during the trip. A loose canopy is a metal disc rattling around a box full of glass.
Frame in the middle, arms as spokes
Stand the heaviest single piece, usually the center body, upright in the middle of the box on a bed of cushioning. Ring the wrapped arms around it like spokes, then fill every remaining gap until a tilt test produces no sound and no shift.
When a chandelier stops being a parcel
A single-tier residential fixture like the one quoted above stays comfortably inside a box a person can tape shut and carry. A two-tier crystal chandelier, a large foyer piece, or anything with a frame too wide to fit safely disassembled is a different shipment: once the boxed piece crosses into a carrier's additional-handling or large-package territory the box stops being rated on what it actually weighs.
