Paid collection

How to schedule a UPS pickup

UPS bills for coming to you: a one-time collection is $14.75 for the same day or $9.05 booked for a later day, per ups.com checked 2026-07-28. Recurring plans are flat weekly charges instead, and handing the parcel in at a UPS drop point carries no additional cost.

What UPS charges to come to you

UPS publishes a price for every collection shape it sells. The one-time option is the one that suits a person shipping a couple of boxes a month; the rest are weekly commitments aimed at businesses with a daily outbound pile.

UPS pickup charges as published on ups.com, checked 2026-07-28. The weekly plans need a UPS account; a one-time request does not commit you to anything after it.
OptionWhat it buysPublished chargeBilled
One-Time Pickup, same dayA driver comes today$14.75Per request
One-Time Pickup, future dayA driver comes on a day you choose$9.05Per request

Daily On-Route PickupCollected while the driver delivers nearby$10.50Flat weekly
UPS Smart PickupPrinting a label triggers the stop$18.00Flat weekly
Daily PickupA set collection time every weekday$36Flat weekly

Read the Day-Specific row twice, because it upends the obvious answer. A whole week with one fixed collection day is priced at $7.50, under what a single future-day request costs. Booking one-off stops more than once a month means paying a premium for flexibility you may not be using.

The pickup next to the label it collects

A collection charge only makes sense against the thing it collects. Five boxes of rising weight went out on one lane through the SMKlog calculator, and the published future-day charge is set beside each.

UPS Ground quoted through SMKlog on 2026-07-28, Newark NJ 07102 to Atlanta GA 30303, alongside the future-day pickup charge published on ups.com.
BoxWeightUPS Ground labelFuture-day pickupThe two added

14 x 12 x 8 in8 lb$20.02$9.05$29.07
16 x 14 x 10 in16 lb$23.70$9.05$32.75

24 x 18 x 14 in50 lb$45.01$9.05$54.06

On the smallest box the collection charge adds most of the label price again. On the 50 lb carton it barely registers. That ratio is the whole decision: the heavier and more valuable the shipment, the more sense it makes to let a driver carry it off your porch instead of you carrying it to a counter. Label prices are the full checkout amount and were true on quote day only.

Booking it, and the clock you are racing

A one-time request goes in on the UPS site, or the driver takes the parcel when they next deliver to you if you catch them. Three published details change how it goes.

  • Volume is not billed twice. UPS states that it will pick up all packages with a single pickup request and that you will not be charged additional pickup fees per package (per ups.com, checked 2026-07-28).
  • Same-day collection has a notify-by moment. On the Smart Pickup product UPS describes the notify-by time as the latest possible time you can process your first shipment of the day for a same day pickup, with the cutoff typically one hour before the desired pickup time (per ups.com, checked 2026-07-28). Miss it and the stop rolls to the next business day.
  • A home address is not a depot. UPS applies a Residential Surcharge at homes, and states that an Area Surcharge will apply for residential pickups designated by UPS as rural, extended, remote Alaska or remote Hawaii, adding that these fees do not apply to commercial locations (per ups.com, checked 2026-07-28). UPS does not publish those amounts on the pickup pages, so plan for them as extra rather than as a figure.
  • The free alternative is a short walk. UPS lists The UPS Store, UPS Access Point locations, UPS Drop Boxes with 24/7 access, and UPS Customer Centers, and says drop-off there carries no additional cost (per ups.com, checked 2026-07-28).

The working order is the same whichever you choose. Price the box here, pay as a guest, print the label at full size, then either book the stop on ups.com or walk the parcel into a drop point and hand it over.

Drop-off is the version that costs nothing

UPS runs four kinds of drop point and charges nothing extra to take a prepaid parcel at any of them. If the box fits in your car and a location sits on a route you already drive, the $9.05 stays in your pocket.

Weekly plans catch up quickly

A second future-day request inside one week already costs more than a whole week of Daily On-Route collection at $10.50, or two fixed weekday stops at $14.75. Anyone shipping steadily should run that arithmetic once rather than per parcel.

A home address costs extra to visit

Residential and area surcharges sit on top of the stop charge, and UPS does not print those amounts on its pickup pages. Commercial addresses escape them, which is why a small seller with a shop unit pays less than one working from a spare room.

UPS pickups, answered

How much is a one-time UPS pickup?

It is $14.75 for a same-day stop and $9.05 when you schedule it for a future day, as published on ups.com and checked on 2026-07-28. One charge covers every parcel in that request, because UPS states you will not be charged additional pickup fees per package.

Is a weekly UPS plan cheaper than one-off requests?

Often, yes. UPS lists Day-Specific Pickup at $7.50 a week for a single collection day, which sits below the $9.05 it charges for one future-day request. Daily On-Route Pickup is $10.50 a week, Smart Pickup is $18.00 a week and Daily Pickup is $36 a week.

Does UPS add anything for collecting from a house?

Yes. A Residential Surcharge applies, and UPS states that an Area Surcharge will apply for residential pickups designated by UPS as rural, extended, remote Alaska or remote Hawaii, while those fees do not apply to commercial locations. UPS does not publish the amounts on its pickup pages.

Can I avoid the UPS pickup charge altogether?

Take the parcel in yourself. UPS lists The UPS Store, UPS Access Point locations, UPS Drop Boxes and UPS Customer Centers, and says drop-off there is available at no additional cost. Buy and print the label at home first so there is nothing to weigh or pay for when you arrive.
