Fee answer

Does UPS charge for pickup?

Yes, every time. A one-time UPS collection is $9.05 booked for a future day or $14.75 for the same day, and the recurring plans run from $7.50 to $36 a week, per ups.com read on 2026-07-28. USPS collects prepaid parcels from the same doorstep for nothing.

The rate you buy covers transport. Whoever carries the box to the truck is priced on its own.

Every UPS collection charge on one screen

UPS does not hide these numbers, it just spreads them across six product pages. Here they are together, read off ups.com on the same morning.

Two structures, two audiences. The per-request rows suit somebody clearing a couple of listings; the weekly rows suit a business with an outbound pile every afternoon. There is no row anywhere on ups.com that reads zero.

The same box, three carriers, collection included

A charge only means something next to an alternative. One box went out to every carrier we quote, and each carrier's published collection price sits beside its rate.

One 12 x 10 x 6 in box at 5 lb, Newark NJ 07102 to Atlanta GA 30303, quoted through SMKlog on 2026-07-28, with each carrier's published door collection charge alongside.

UPS Ground Saver$13.52$9.05 future day, $14.75 same dayNone returned on this row
UPS Ground$14.05$9.05 future day, $14.75 same day2-3 business days
FedEx Ground Economy$14.31$9.00 online future weekday6-7 business days

Seventy-nine cents separated the cheapest and the dearest label in that table. The collection line was worth up to $14.75. On a single small parcel the pickup decision moves more money than the carrier decision does, which is the opposite of what most people assume. One caution: no transit window came back attached to the Ground Saver row, so nothing on this page states one.

What UPS does not put a number on

  • Residential collection carries a surcharge. UPS states that an Area Surcharge will apply for residential pickups designated by UPS as rural, extended, remote Alaska or remote Hawaii, and that these fees do not apply to commercial locations (per ups.com, checked 2026-07-28). The amounts are not printed on the pickup pages, so nobody should quote you one.
  • Parcel count is not a multiplier. UPS will pick up all packages with a single pickup request and states that you will not be charged additional pickup fees per package (per ups.com, checked 2026-07-28). Two boxes and twelve boxes cost the same to collect.
  • Handing it in is the zero-cost route. UPS lists The UPS Store, UPS Access Point locations, UPS Drop Boxes open around the clock and UPS Customer Centers, and says drop-off carries no additional cost (per ups.com, checked 2026-07-28).

The scheduling itself, the notify-by cutoff and the way a request behaves once it is in are covered on our UPS pickup scheduling guide. This page is only about what it costs.

However the collection question lands, the first three moves are identical. Price the box on this site, print the label, and then either pay UPS to come to you or spend those same ten minutes driving to a drop point.

The cheapest UPS pickup is no pickup

Drop points cost nothing extra and UPS runs four kinds of them. If a location sits on a route you already drive, the whole charge disappears without changing the service the parcel gets.

Book tomorrow, not today

Waiting a day drops a one-time request from $14.75 to $9.05. Same driver, same truck, same network; the premium is entirely for the urgency.

USPS is the free lane for small stuff

For a light parcel the free Postal collection often beats paying UPS to visit, even when the UPS label itself is a few cents cheaper. Price both before assuming the cheaper rate wins.

UPS pickup charges, answered

How much does UPS charge to pick up a package?

A one-time request is $9.05 for a future day or $14.75 for the same day. Recurring plans are flat weekly charges: $7.50 to $28.50 for Day-Specific collection on one to four weekdays, $10.50 for Daily On-Route, $18.00 for Smart Pickup and $36 for Daily Pickup. All read from ups.com on 2026-07-28.

Does UPS charge per package or per pickup?

Per pickup. UPS states that it will pick up all packages with a single pickup request and that you will not be charged additional pickup fees per package, so the stack size does not change the charge.

Is UPS pickup free for a residential address?

No, and a home address costs more rather than less. A Residential Surcharge applies, and UPS adds an Area Surcharge for residential pickups it designates as rural, extended, remote Alaska or remote Hawaii. Those charges do not apply at commercial locations.

Which carrier collects parcels for nothing?

USPS does, through Free Package Pickup, which happens on the letter carrier's normal delivery round and costs nothing regardless of how many packages are in the request. UPS and FedEx both price collection as a separate line.
