UPS overnight tiers

UPS Next Day Air Early, Next Day Air and Next Day Air Saver

The three tiers arrive on the same day and differ on the hour and the map. Next Day Air Early is the morning commitment covering the 48 contiguous states and Anchorage, Next Day Air reaches all 50 states and Puerto Rico, and Next Day Air Saver leaves from any state but delivers only into the contiguous 48, with UPS now attaching an end-of-day commitment of 11:59 p.m. to it.

What UPS publishes about each overnight tier

UPS keeps the coverage detail and the timing detail on two different pages. Both were read on 2026-07-28, and both matter before you pick a tier.

  • Next Day Air Early. UPS says it delivers to the 48 contiguous states and Anchorage, AK. It is the earliest morning commitment UPS sells.
  • Next Day Air. Delivers to all 50 states and Puerto Rico, the widest footprint of the three.
  • Next Day Air Saver. Delivers from all 50 U.S. states to the 48 contiguous states, so it can leave anywhere but cannot land in Alaska, Hawaii or Puerto Rico.
  • The commitment that changed. The UPS Service Guarantee page states that Next Day Air Saver deliveries now carry an end-of-day commitment, 11:59 p.m. on the scheduled delivery day. It also notes that Next Day Air to residential locations with a typical 10:30 a.m. delivery has been extended to 12:00 p.m.
  • What is actually covered. UPS lists the guarantee as currently active for a set of air and international services, naming Next Day Air Early, Next Day Air, Next Day Air Saver and 2nd Day Air A.M., and states that it remains suspended for all other UPS shipments and services not specified in the above sections.

Read together, those two bullets are the whole Saver tradeoff. You are buying next-business-day arrival with the delivery hour handed back to UPS, and in exchange the price sits below the timed tiers. That is a good trade for stock replenishment and a bad one for a morning appointment.

Five UPS tiers priced on one shipment

This is the rare capture where the whole UPS air ladder came back in a single request, so the gaps between tiers are real rather than assembled from separate quotes. The shipment is a large framed painting in a wooden crate, 52 x 36 x 6 in at 40 lb, which is why the absolute numbers are high. The shape of the ladder is what to read.

All five UPS services returned for one crated shipment, Newark NJ 07102 to Atlanta GA 30303, quoted 2026-07-27. Price is the entire checkout amount.
ServicePriceWindow returnedStep up from the row above
UPS Ground$164.753-4 business daysbaseline
UPS 3 Day Select$207.933-4 business days$43.18
UPS 2nd Day Air$260.722-3 business days$52.79
UPS 2nd Day Air A.M.$291.062-3 business days$30.34
UPS Next Day Air Saver$452.941 business day$161.88

The last step is the expensive one. Going from a two-day morning commitment to next-day end-of-day cost $161.88 on this shipment, roughly the price of the entire ground label again. Overnight is not a small upgrade on a large parcel, and on this capture Next Day Air Saver was the only overnight tier returned at all. Next Day Air and Next Day Air Early did not appear in any quote we hold.

Saver is the tier most people should buy

If the parcel simply has to be there tomorrow, the end-of-day commitment does the job for less than a timed morning tier. The cases where it fails are narrow and obvious: a recipient who leaves at noon, a site that only receives before 10, a same-day onward handoff.

Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico change the answer

Saver can originate anywhere in the 50 states but only delivers into the 48 contiguous ones. Next Day Air is the tier UPS points at all 50 states and Puerto Rico, so an offshore destination narrows your choice before price does.

The guarantee list is worth checking every time

UPS states the guarantee is active for the named air and international services and suspended for everything else. That is a live status on a live page, not a permanent fact, so read it on the day you ship something where a refund would matter.
