Overnight tiers

FedEx Priority Overnight, Standard Overnight and First Overnight

All three put a parcel at the destination the next business day, and the price gap between them buys hours rather than days. FedEx commits Priority Overnight to 10:30 a.m. at most businesses in the contiguous US and noon at most residences, Standard Overnight to 5:00 p.m. at businesses and 8 p.m. at residences, and First Overnight to a morning band starting at 8 a.m.

Three tiers, three clocks

FedEx sells next-business-day delivery at three prices, and the only thing separating them is the hour on the promise. Every phrase in this table was read off the FedEx overnight page, checked 2026-07-28.

Standard Overnightby 5:00 p.m.by 8 p.m.
  • Weekdays only, by default. FedEx states that these services deliver Monday to Friday, and that Saturday delivery is available in certain areas for an additional charge.
  • Size ceiling. Up to 150 lbs each, up to 119 inches in length, 165 inches in length plus girth.
  • What the page does not say. It publishes no prices and no refund terms, so this page will not attach either to a FedEx tier.

The practical read: Standard Overnight and Priority Overnight both put the parcel there the next business day. What you are buying with the upgrade is roughly six and a half hours of the recipient's working day, from 5 p.m. down to 10:30 a.m. If nobody is waiting at the desk for it, that is money spent on an hour that changes nothing.

What our rate screen returned when speed was the point

No FedEx overnight tier came back in any capture we ran on 2026-07-28. Our screen returns the five best-value services for the parcel you describe, and an overnight tier almost never places on a routine parcel. Here is the fastest paid option that did come back, across six boxes on one lane.

Fastest paid service returned per parcel, Newark NJ 07102 to Atlanta GA 30303, quoted 2026-07-28. Price is the whole amount collected at checkout.

12 x 10 x 6 in, 5 lbUPS 2nd Day Air$21.962-3 business days

Two-day air on a short lane ran from $15.38 to $21.96 across those six parcels. An overnight tier on any carrier sits well above that, which is why it belongs to genuine deadlines rather than to impatience. If you need one, set the service preference on the calculator to shortest estimated transit or pin it to a single carrier, and the five services on screen change accordingly.

Pick the tier from the recipient, not the sender

A courthouse filing, a clinic, a trade counter that closes at noon: those justify a morning commitment. A parcel that lands in a mailroom and gets walked round at four in the afternoon does not care whether it arrived at 10:30 or at 5.

Friday is the expensive day to be late

Weekday-only delivery means a Friday overnight label bought after cutoff is a Monday arrival, and the premium you paid buys nothing across the weekend. Saturday delivery exists in certain areas for an extra charge, so check the address before assuming it.

Read the returned window, not the tier name

On our Newark to Philadelphia quote, UPS Ground came back with a 1 business day window for a 5 lb box at $11.24. There are lanes where the cheapest ground row already delivers tomorrow and an overnight label adds cost without adding a day.

FedEx overnight tiers: common questions

What is the difference between Priority Overnight and Standard Overnight?

The hour, not the day. FedEx commits Priority Overnight to 10:30 a.m. at most businesses in the contiguous US and noon at most residences, while Standard Overnight commits to 5:00 p.m. at businesses and 8 p.m. at residences. Both are next business day, per fedex.com checked 2026-07-28.

What is FedEx First Overnight?

The earliest tier. FedEx publishes delivery the next-business-day morning by 8 a.m., 8:30 a.m., 9 a.m. or 9:30 a.m. to most areas, with extended delivery locations running up to 2 p.m. It is the one to buy when a morning deadline is real.

Do FedEx overnight services deliver on Saturday?

Not as standard. FedEx states these services deliver Monday to Friday, and that Saturday delivery is available in certain areas for an additional charge. Check the destination before you assume a Friday label lands on Saturday.

Can I buy FedEx overnight through SMKlog?

No FedEx overnight tier came back in any quote we ran on 2026-07-28. Our screen returns the five best-value services for the parcel described, and overnight tiers rarely place there. Setting the service preference to shortest estimated transit, or pinning a carrier, changes which five you see.
