How do I change the shipping address on a Shopify order?
From the Shopify admin, open Orders, click the order, click the menu icon in the Customer section, then Edit shipping address, update the fields, and save. Shopify's own help page documents that exact click path, read 2026-08-31.
Can I edit the billing address the same way?
No. Shopify's help page states plainly that you can't edit the billing address on an order. The shipping address has its own edit screen; the billing address does not.
Which orders won't let me edit the address at all?
Orders imported by an app, Shop Pay Installments orders, and orders using local delivery as the shipping method. Shopify's help page names these directly as order edit restrictions, read 2026-08-31, and none of the three can be edited from the admin regardless of fulfillment status.
Does changing the address change the shipping charge?
No, and this is the detail that catches most merchants out. Shopify's help documentation states that shipping methods and rates aren't recalculated when you edit an order. Moving a package from a nearby zone to a distant one leaves the original rate charged, and a merchant has to add a custom shipping charge by hand to collect the difference.
What if the order has already shipped?
The admin edit screen changes the record, not the label already in a carrier's hands. Past that point it is a carrier request — USPS Package Intercept, or a UPS or FedEx reroute — priced and timed by the carrier, not by Shopify.
