Labels live in the admin
The page describes a full shipping workflow inside the store's admin and the ability to create up to 250 labels at once. For a shop whose every parcel starts as a Shopify order, that integration is the core of the value.
A store already inside Shopify gets label buying bundled with the admin, and dismissing that bundle without looking would be bad advice. So this page looks: first at what shopify.com itself claims for the feature, quoted and dated, then at live per-label prices for a typical store order, then at the honest dividing line between the two setups.
Admin-integrated labels suit order flow. Parcels with no order behind them are where the a la carte side earns its keep.
Read from shopify.com/shipping on 2026-07-27; nothing below extends past that page's wording. Its headline pitch: "Save instantly when you buy domestic and international labels. We negotiated the best rates so you don't have to."

Per the page: with Shopify Payments activated and a store on the Grow, Advanced or Plus plan, up to $200 USD of shipment coverage is automatically included on each eligible label at no cost. Stores outside those plans should not assume the perk.
The page we checked promises negotiated rates but lists no percentages and no carrier-by-carrier price table. We will not fill that silence with guesses; a live quote for your own box settles it better than marketing copy in either direction.
Delivery tracking through emails and push notifications and address validation before shipping both appear on the feature list. These are table stakes across the industry, but Shopify does state them plainly.
The middle of the DTC world is a 12 × 10 × 6 in box at 3 lb: a candle set, a small stack of apparel, a boxed accessory. We quoted exactly that from Newark, NJ 07102 to Atlanta, GA 30303 on 2026-07-27. Each figure is the whole checkout price of that label, nothing recurring behind it.
| Service | Label price | Quoted transit |
|---|---|---|
| USPS Ground Advantage | $8.48 | 6-7 business days |
| UPS Ground Saver | $12.07 | 4 days quoted |
| FedEx Ground Economy | $12.42 | 4-5 business days |
| UPS Ground | $12.47 | 3-4 business days |
| UPS 3 Day Select | $17.61 | 3-4 business days |
Whether Shopify's negotiated rate beats, matches or trails these rows for your box is exactly the experiment worth running: quote the identical package both places on the same afternoon. Our side of that experiment takes a description and two ZIPs, and the small-business shipping guide extends it across a whole product line.
Orders arriving through the storefront, printed in batches, on a qualifying plan with the coverage perk active: that is Shopify Shipping working as designed, and bolting an outside tool onto it adds steps without obvious payback.
Supplier returns, samples to a photographer, a wholesale carton to a stockist, replacement units under warranty: parcels like these never enter the order pipeline. Quoting them individually as a guest keeps them off any subscription's meter.
Stores drift: average parcel weight creeps up, a second sales channel appears, the plan tier changes. The bundle-versus-separate answer moves with all three, so re-run one honest comparison per quarter and let the totals vote.
shopify.com claims negotiated rates but published no percentages or price tables on the page we checked 2026-07-27, so the only trustworthy answer comes from quoting your actual box both ways. Ours priced a 3 lb store order at $8.48 that day; compare against what your admin shows.
Per shopify.com, checked 2026-07-27: Shopify Payments must be activated and the store must sit on the Grow, Advanced or Plus plan, after which up to $200 USD of shipment coverage is automatically included on each eligible label at no cost.
Not for parcels that exist as orders; the admin handles those, including bulk label creation per shopify.com. Separate labels earn their place for shipments with no order attached and for spot-checking whether a specific box prices better outside.
The postage of the labels actually bought, and nothing more. There is no plan behind the SMKlog calculator, so five shipments cost five labels and zero shipments cost zero, which is the arithmetic slow seasons deserve.
