The full ladder

Shipping cost by weight, nothing hidden

This page exists for one purpose: to show what packages actually cost at ten weights, every service the calculator returned, on two named routes, on a named day. No averages, no "starting at". If a cell has a number, a real quote produced it.

Boxes grew with the pounds

Each rung used a realistically sized carton, from 10 by 8 by 4 inches at 1 lb up to 24 by 18 by 14 at 50 lb.

Green marks the cheapest quote in each row. An empty dash means that service didn't come back in the calculator's results for that box on quote day, which happens routinely as carriers filter what they offer per size and lane.

Three patterns repay study. USPS dominates below 5 lb, then fades and eventually vanishes from the results. UPS Ground Saver rules the middleweights before its own pricing collapses above 20 lb, where plain Ground abruptly becomes the bargain. And the coast-to-coast premium is not a constant: it's modest at 1 lb, then brutal by 50, where the two lanes sit thirty-one dollars apart at their cheapest. Your box will draw its own version of this table, which takes about a minute to see.

Weight and price, straight answers

How much does shipping cost per pound?

Parcel pricing isn't linear, so per-pound math misleads. Our Newark to Atlanta quotes started at $9.91 for 1 lb, dipped to $8.48 at 2 lb, and reached $45.01 at 50 lb. The first pound is the expensive one; each added pound costs less than the one before.

Why did the 2 lb box quote cheaper than the 1 lb box?

Rate tables have odd seams. On 2026-07-27 USPS Ground Advantage wanted $9.91 for our 1 lb parcel but $8.48 for the 2 lb one on the identical lane, likely because the two boxes fell into different size tiers. Quoting both configurations occasionally pays.

What weight range is cheapest to ship?

In this data the sweet spot ran from 2 to 5 lb, where every winning quote stayed under fourteen dollars on the East Coast lane. Costs climb steadily after 10 lb, and cross-country amplifies each step, with the 50 lb Los Angeles box winning at $76.04.

Which service was cheapest most often?

USPS Ground Advantage took the rungs up to 3 lb, UPS Ground Saver owned the middle from 5 to 20 lb, and plain UPS Ground won everything heavier. That handoff pattern held on both routes we quoted.
