An address correction fee is what a carrier bills when it has to work out where your parcel was actually meant to go. UPS charges $25.25 per package and FedEx $25.50 for 2026; USPS handles the same job through Address Correction Service at $1.00 for a manual notice or $0.22 for an electronic one on First-Class Mail and retail Ground Advantage.
The private carriers price a typo at roughly the cost of the label itself.

The UPS amount was read from its 2026 guide as updated on the seventh of July, retrieved 2026-07-28. The FedEx amount appears in that carrier published 2026 fee changes, applying from the fifth of January. The Postal Service rows come from the Address Correction Service block of Notice 123, dated the twelfth of July, 2026.
The gap between the private carriers and the Postal Service is the story here. UPS describes the charge as covering reasonable efforts to secure the correct or complete address, and adds a warning worth reading twice: an address it has already validated may still turn out to be incorrect or incomplete for delivery, and may be corrected. Validation is not immunity.
A missing apartment or suite number, a transposed street number, a company name in the street line, a ZIP that does not match the city, and an address that resolves to a different unit than the one intended. Drivers do not guess for long. Once the network has to look something up, the fee is attached to the shipment rather than to the delivery attempt.
Addresses are checked before a label is issued, which catches most of it. When a carrier does bill a correction after the fact, we do not quietly take it from a stored card, because we do not keep one. Copy the address from the buyer's own checkout output rather than retyping it, keep unit numbers in the second address line, and confirm any address a customer sends in a chat message. Ten seconds of checking beats $25.25 every time.
The charge is the smaller half of the damage. A parcel held for an address lookup loses days, and a parcel that cannot be resolved goes back to the sender with return transportation billed on top.
