Does USPS Retail Ground still exist?
No. USPS merged it into Ground Advantage in July 2023, along with First-Class Package Service and Parcel Select Ground. Anything you used to hand over as Retail Ground now travels, and is priced, as Ground Advantage, up to the same 70 lb ceiling.
What replaced Retail Ground's pricing?
Ground Advantage's zone-and-weight table. As a live reference: on 2026-07-27 our checkout quoted a 5 lb carton at $14.67 from Newark to Atlanta and $20.84 from Los Angeles to New York, both with tracking baked in.
Was the old product cheaper than its replacement?
The merger generally lowered prices for light parcels, since Retail Ground carried counter-style pricing and no built-in tracking. Rather than argue from memory, quote your box live; the ladder above is what the replacement costs on two real lanes today.
Do I need to do anything differently at the counter?
Just ask for Ground Advantage, or skip the counter: buy the label online, where the same service prices lower, and hand the box to any carrier pickup or drop point. The old brochure name will get you the same product either way.
