Round up with intention
If your packed parcel weighs 1 lb 9 oz, you're being priced as 2 lb anyway, and on capture day that band was the cheap one. Knowing which side of a band you sit on matters more than shaving an ounce of tape.
Ground Advantage absorbed three retired USPS products and now carries most casual parcels in the country. Below is what it cost through our checkout on 2026-07-27, weight step by weight step on two lanes, including one pricing quirk we deliberately left visible.
Ten weights per lane went through the production quote engine and landed here unedited, dips and dropouts included.
Test subject: one cardboard carton, 25 x 20 x 10 cm, about the size of a thick shoebox, quoted at ten weights on each lane. A dash means Ground Advantage was absent from the returned options at that weight, which itself is a finding.

The dip is real: 2 and 3 lb priced below 1 lb on both lanes, $8.48 versus $9.91 from Newark and $11.04 versus $11.12 from Los Angeles. There's also a sharp western step between 15 and 20 lb, $35.33 to $55.71, worth knowing before you top off a box. And past 20 lb the service simply stopped appearing among the returned options, outbid by UPS and FedEx ground tiers.

Under 5 lb with a flexible recipient, nothing else in the capture touched these prices. The 6-7 day window is the whole trade; decide on that first, then look at the number.
The engine already did the disloyalty for you: heavy requests came back led by UPS Ground at $31.52 for 30 lb from Newark. Ground Advantage is a light-parcel tool, not an identity.
In our 2026-07-27 capture: $9.91 at 1 lb and $8.48 at 2-3 lb from Newark to Atlanta; $11.12 at 1 lb and $11.04 at 2-3 lb from Los Angeles to New York. All-in checkout totals for a 25 x 20 x 10 cm carton.
Because rate bands aren't smooth. The 2 lb and 3 lb requests fell into a cheaper pricing cell than the 1 lb one on both lanes that day, $8.48 under $9.91 eastbound. We print what the engine returned rather than sanding the curve flat.
Every quote in this capture carried a 6-7 business day window, on the short-haul east lane and the cross-country west lane alike. If that window fits, it's hard to beat on price at light weights; if it doesn't, the faster tiers are one comparison away.
Missing honestly. At those weights on these lanes, Ground Advantage didn't make the competitive set the engine returned; UPS and FedEx ground tiers took every slot. Quote your own heavy box and you'll see the live pecking order for your ZIPs.
