USPS states that all Click-N-Ship users automatically receive commercial pricing, so the old story about paying counter rates online no longer holds (per usps.com/ship/online-shipping.htm, checked 2026-07-28). What has not changed is that Click-N-Ship needs a free USPS.com account and only sells USPS services, which is exactly where an alternative earns its place.
Postage tier, carrier choice and signup are three separate questions. Click-N-Ship settles the first one well and leaves the other two where they were.

Read that list back and the shape of the tool is clear. It buys three USPS services at the commercial tier, competently, for anybody willing to hold a USPS.com login. Nothing about it is a trap and nothing about it is slow.
USPS prints both price tiers in Notice 123. Below is the 5 lb Ground Advantage line at every zone, retail on the left and commercial on the right, so you can see what the tier alone is worth before any vendor is involved.

Every figure in the middle column is available through Click-N-Ship, and the same tier underlies what our calculator returns. So the postage argument between us is largely settled. The remaining questions are which carriers you get to see and whether you have to register to see them.
Here is the part Click-N-Ship structurally cannot do: put a UPS row and a FedEx row on the same screen as the USPS one. Both boxes below are the same 12 × 10 × 6 in carton, quoted on the same afternoon, to two very different distances.

The short lane goes decisively to USPS, by nearly five dollars. The long lane inverts it, with two UPS rows landing under the USPS one and only fifty cents separating the top three. A USPS-only tool would have shown you one of those five rows on each run and you would never have known which way the lane leaned.
A USPS.com login is free and takes a couple of minutes, so this is a friction argument rather than a cost one. It matters most when you are shipping something once, at ten at night, and do not want another set of credentials in your password manager for the trouble.

If you ship USPS in serious volume, the non-published business pricing USPS mentions is a genuine reason to deal with them directly. We would rather point at it than pretend it does not exist.
Not any more. USPS states that all users automatically get commercial pricing when ordering through Click-N-Ship, checked on usps.com on 2026-07-28. The retail column in Notice 123 is what you pay across a Post Office counter, not what you pay online.
On the 5 lb Ground Advantage line in Notice 123, effective July 12, 2026, it runs from $3.25 in Zone 1 to $6.86 in Zone 8. Zone 4 sits at $15.80 retail against $11.02 commercial.
It sells USPS services only, so no UPS or FedEx row appears, and it starts with a USPS.com account. Those two limits are the reason people look for something else, not the postage price.
