UPS Ground or USPS Ground Advantage: settle the name, then the price
Ground Advantage is a Post Office product. UPS has never sold a service under that name — its home-delivery workhorses are UPS Ground and UPS Ground Saver — yet the two brands blur together often enough that the question keeps getting asked. Whose name is whose
USPS launched Ground Advantage in July 2023 as its single ground package service, and the “ground” in the name collides with UPS Ground often enough to blur the brands. They are different companies' networks end to end: a Ground Advantage parcel rides with the mail and can land in your mailbox, while a UPS Ground parcel rides UPS trucks to the door. Neither carrier will accept the other's label.

The pattern holds across most of what we quote. Ounce-weight parcels belong to USPS, which prices below a pound by ounce band. Somewhere between one and two pounds the lines cross — the candle box came back at $13.42 and $13.40 — and bulky-but-light boxes swing hard to UPS, because postal pricing swells with box volume faster than UPS Ground's does. Past 70 lb the choice makes itself: that is the postal ceiling, and UPS Ground continues to 150 lb.
Picking without a rate chart
One to two pounds
This is the crossover band where the winner changes with the destination and the box. Quote both every time; the answer is not stable enough to memorize.
Heavy or bulky
Big flat boxes, dense boxes and anything past the 70 lb postal ceiling ride UPS. Our capture's clearest spread was the flat curtain box: $11.07 against $15.67.

Common questions
Is Ground Advantage UPS or USPS?
USPS. Ground Advantage is the Post Office's ground package service, launched in July 2023. UPS sells nothing under that name; its comparable products are UPS Ground and UPS Ground Saver.
Can a Ground Advantage package be dropped off at UPS?
A Ground Advantage label moves in the postal network, so hand it to USPS: a Post Office counter, a collection box it fits into, or a carrier pickup from your address. A UPS Ground label, likewise, needs a UPS location or driver.
Which one is cheaper for a small package?
On our 2026-08-09 quotes USPS won under a pound, $8.86 against $10.69 for a half-pound mailer, and the two landed at $13.42 and $13.40 at a pound and a half. The big flat box flipped to UPS at $11.07 against $15.67, so box size decides as much as weight.
Is UPS Ground faster than Ground Advantage?
UPS publishes 1–5 business days against USPS's 2–5, and on our short test lanes UPS Ground carried a 2-3 day window where Ground Advantage showed 4-5. On the Newark to Los Angeles run the two windows matched at 4-5 days.
