Why people wait for it anyway
Ground Advantage was the cheapest row on most quotes we ran, and at $8.48 for 2 lb out of Newark it wasn't close. For merch, spare parts, gifts without a deadline, the discount out-argues the calendar.
The advertised answer is 2-5 business days for the lower 48, per usps.com, checked 2026-07-27. The measured answer, from quotes we captured that same day: 3-4 days on some lanes, 6-7 on others. Both answers are real; only one of them knows your route.
One number comes from a product page, the other from quotes with money behind them. We show both.
Six rows, four routes, every one a live offer with its checkout total shown whole. SMKlog's share is inside each figure, never added later.

Half the sample landed inside the advertised 2-5 band and half quoted beyond it. Interestingly, raw distance didn't predict which: Miami to Manhattan is a long run and still drew 3-4 days, while the shorter Newark to Atlanta lane read 6-7. Whatever drives those forecasts lives in the network's routing, not on a mileage chart, and the only reliable way to see yours is to quote the actual pair of ZIPs.

Shipments include up to $100 of protection against loss or damage, per usps.com, checked 2026-07-27. For items worth more, add shipping protection at checkout rather than gambling on the base amount.
The usps.com fine print flags Alaska, Hawaii and offshore destinations as potentially slower than the headline range. If your recipient has a ZIP outside the contiguous states, treat the quoted window as the floor, not the ceiling.
That's the published expectation on usps.com, checked 2026-07-27, with a footnote that Alaska, Hawaii and offshore destinations can run slower. Our Dallas to Los Angeles and Miami to New York quotes fit the band at 3-4 business days; the Newark to Atlanta and Los Angeles to New York lanes quoted 6-7.
A quote's window is a lane-level forecast generated when you price the box, and on some ZIP pairs the network plans more conservatively than the national marketing. We print whatever the quote said on 2026-07-27 rather than smoothing it to match the brochure.
On our eastern lane, yes by a wide margin: 6-7 business days versus 3-4, even though Ground Advantage was cheaper at $8.48 against $11.07 for 2 lb. From Dallas to Los Angeles the two matched at 3-4 days, and there the postal price of $15.12 made it the better ticket.
Light packages with patient recipients. At 2 lb from Newark our 2026-07-27 capture read $8.48, the lowest figure on the entire quote. Ship something a buyer is anxiously refreshing tracking for, and the calculator's faster rows earn their premium.
