The government page states that bona fide gifts sent by post or courier enter free of duty up to a value of 30 dollars. Above that the goods are dutiable at the tariff rate for what they are, and a wharfage fee of 1.25 percent is charged on the value of air or sea cargo on top of any duty. A modest present clears cleanly; a phone, a pair of shoes or a small appliance is over the line and meets duty at the counter, which is worth telling the recipient before it arrives so the charge is not a surprise.
Because the threshold is a value rather than a weight, splitting a shipment does not help the way it can elsewhere. Two boxes each worth more than the allowance are two dutiable shipments, not one exemption doubled. Declare the value honestly, since Bermuda Customs assesses on that figure and the wharfage rides on it as well.

The weight column is where Bermuda differs from the usual ladder. Both parcel products sit in Price Group 10 and both cap at 44 lb, so moving up to express here does not lift the ceiling the way it does on most lanes, where express reaches 66 lb. If the box is over 44 lb, neither postal parcel product carries it, and the shipment becomes a freight question rather than a postage one. The prohibition side is unusually thin: only perishable biological substances and radioactive materials are barred by post, with valuables prohibited on the express product.
