How much is the UPS residential surcharge?
UPS publishes $6.50 per package on its ground services, $7.00 on domestic air and 3 Day Select, and $6.60 on Standard services, in the 2026 Rate and Service Guide updated July 7, 2026. It applies in addition to any area surcharge on the same package.
What counts as a residential address?
UPS defines it as a delivery to, or a pickup request from, a location that is a home, including a business operating out of a home. Running a company from your kitchen does not make the address commercial in the carrier record.
Does USPS charge a residential fee?
No. Notice 123, the USPS domestic price list effective July 12, 2026, has no residential surcharge for parcels. That absence is a large part of why Ground Advantage took every one of the four home-to-home parcels we priced on 2026-07-28.
Can I avoid it by shipping to a business?
Often yes. If the recipient can accept the parcel at a workplace, the delivery charge disappears and any area surcharge drops to the commercial band. Quote both addresses in our calculator and the difference shows up as a plain price gap.
