A lot of buyers look only at the confirmation email, see no tracking number in it, and conclude there isn't one. eBay's own help pages, read 2026-08-30, put the real answer somewhere else entirely: Purchase history, where a tracking number appears as a clickable link the moment the seller enters one. This page stays on eBay's own screens — where the number lives, how the estimated delivery date is built, and when waiting turns into a case — without repeating the general carrier-recovery routes covered elsewhere on this site.
eBay attaches tracking to the order record itself, and the confirmation email is not always where it shows up first.

Open Purchase history, find the order, and the tracking link sits next to that line item once the seller has entered one — it can appear there before it ever shows up in a follow-up email, and some sellers never send a separate tracking email at all, relying entirely on the order record. eBay's help page also covers the guest-buyer path: select View order details, then Show shipping details, to reach a delivery status bar naming the delivery company, the tracking number and the item's current location. If the link is genuinely not there yet, eBay's own instruction is direct: contact the seller to ask them to add tracking. That request goes through eBay Messages, which keeps a record on the platform rather than in a private email thread the case review process cannot see.
The date shown on an eBay listing and order is not a guess pulled from thin air, and it is not the carrier's transit estimate alone.

Handling time itself is not a 24-hour clock. A seller offering one-day handling has until the end of the next business day to get the item scanned, so a Monday payment can still ship Tuesday night and be entirely on schedule. Once the estimate is out past that handling window, it is the carrier's own transit time carrying the rest of the date — and a slipping estimate is often a handling-time problem on the seller's end rather than a shipping problem in transit.
Not every eBay shipment gets a tracking number, and this is the case a lot of missing-tracking searches are actually describing.
A seller who mails an item as a stamped, letter-class piece outside any tracked program has, in effect, put it in an envelope with no barcode — there is nothing for eBay's Purchase history to display because nothing was ever generated. The one platform exception is eBay Standard Envelope, built for flat, light collectibles such as trading cards, which eBay describes as carrying integrated tracking precisely because it runs through eBay's own shipping pipeline rather than a bare stamp. If a listing does not use that service and the seller chose ordinary postage, no tracking link will ever populate, and messaging the seller is the only way to learn anything more than “shipped.”
eBay's own Money Back Guarantee policy draws a clean line, and it is measured from the delivery date, not from the order date.
A buyer may report an item not received “once the estimated or actual delivery/collection date has passed”, and no later than “30 calendar days after the estimated or actual delivery/collection date has passed.”

Before that date passes, the sanctioned moves are the ones covered above: reread Purchase history for a link that may have populated since the last check, and message the seller through eBay Messages if it has not. Filing an Item Not Received report before the estimated date has passed is premature by eBay's own rule, and it can also close doors a patient message would have kept open.
