Why the flat-panel trick breaks a curved screen

The standard advice for a flat monitor is to lay a rigid board across the whole screen face before anything else touches it, because a flat board spreads any point impact evenly across a flat sheet of glass. Set that same board on a curved panel and it only makes contact at the two edges where the curve rises to meet it, with the highest part of the curve suspended in open air underneath. Any pressure at all — from strapping, from a stacked box, from the panel simply settling under its own weight in transit — concentrates at those two contact lines and flexes the glass across the gap between them. That repeated flex across an unsupported curve is the mechanism behind most curved-panel cracks that arrive with no visible impact on the box.

Edge-only cradle, not a board

Cut two rigid pieces — foam board or double-wall cardboard — shaped to touch the panel only at its outer bezel, left and right (or top and bottom, depending on the panel's curve axis). Nothing should rest against the glass itself at any point.

Fill the void behind the curve

A curved panel leaves a real gap between the glass and a flat outer box wall that a flat panel never has. Pack that space with foam or air pillows so the panel cannot shift into it under vibration, without letting the fill press forward onto the curve.

Stand off, corners loaded
