eBay orders
eBay won't move a paid order to a new address
Once payment clears, neither the buyer nor the seller has an edit screen for the ship-to address on an eBay order. eBay's own help page is blunt about it, read 2026-08-30: sellers generally can't change the shipping address that you provided at checkout. What actually works instead, before and after a label prints, follows.

The address on the order is the address on the box, unless the order is undone and placed again.
There is no address field to edit after checkout
eBay's help page for changing shipping details after a purchase, read 2026-08-30, opens with the same advice for every version of this problem: “If you've already completed your purchase but need to make a change to your address or shipping details, contact the seller as soon as possible to let them know.” The page then states the limit plainly: “Sellers generally can't change the shipping address that you provided at checkout.”
That single sentence rules out most of what a worried buyer tries first. There is no account setting, no order-edit form, and asking the seller to quietly type in a new address is asking them to do something eBay's own systems do not support. The address that came in with the payment is the one on file, and it stays there until the order itself is undone.
Before it ships: cancel it, then buy it again
eBay's own page names the fix directly, read 2026-08-30, for an order the seller has not sent yet: “The best thing to do is to ask the seller to cancel the transaction, then repurchase the item with the correct shipping address.” That is the whole mechanism — there is no partial edit, only undo and redo.
- Message the seller first, not eBay. The seller is the one who can act on the order, and the sooner they see it the more likely the parcel is still sitting unpacked.
- Ask for a cancellation, not an address change. A cancellation is the tool eBay actually gives both sides; a mid-order address edit is not.
- Repurchase with the right address typed in at checkout. The new order carries its own, correct ship-to field from the start.
A seller is never obligated to accept the cancellation, and eBay does not force one through on a buyer's request alone. If a seller ignores the ask or declines it, the order keeps moving toward the address it already has.
After it ships: it's a carrier request now, not an eBay one
eBay's page is equally direct about the other outcome, read 2026-08-30: “If the seller has already shipped your order, or if they don't accept the cancellation, the package will be sent to the address you originally selected.” At that point eBay has finished its part, and whatever happens next runs through the carrier that is physically holding the box.
UPS and FedEx

The wrong-address parcel, once delivered
If it lands before anyone catches it, that becomes a delivered-to-the-wrong-place problem rather than a redirect. Our page on a package delivered to the wrong address covers that stage instead.
None of these carrier tools are free, and none of them are instant. Reading the fee before requesting a redirect is worth the two minutes — on a cheap item, buying a fresh label after a successful cancellation is often the cheaper fix.

Why a seller should never quietly overwrite the address
A seller who ships a wrong-address order to wherever the buyer says instead of what the order shows is trading away their own protection. eBay's Money Back Guarantee policy, read 2026-08-30, sets out what counts as proof of delivery for a seller: “The recipient's address, showing the zip code (or international equivalent) that matches the one on the Order details page.” The same policy marks a buyer's own mistyped address as excluded from coverage entirely: “The buyer provided an invalid or incorrect address at checkout — Not covered.”
Put together, those two lines are the reason a seller should point every request back at the platform's own tools rather than a private message. Ship to whatever the order page shows and a later dispute is covered; ship to an address a buyer emailed separately and it is not, even if the buyer asked nicely and meant well.

What should I do if I typed the wrong address on an eBay order?
