Box of family photo albums
Several full albums stack into real weight fast; ours booked near eighteen pounds.
Let us clear up the myth first: photo albums are not eligible for USPS Media Mail. The Domestic Mail Manual, section 273.3.1, limits the book category to works of at least eight printed pages consisting wholly of reading matter, and an album of family photographs is not that. So albums pay regular parcel rates, which for our boxed stack meant $21.77 to $32.23 on Newark to Atlanta, quoted 2026-07-27. Regular rates, irreplaceable cargo.
The rates are a 2026-07-27 calculator pass for the album box described. The Media Mail exclusion comes from the USPS rulebook itself, not from us.

The pricing here is ordinary; the contents are not. Spend your attention on the packing steps below, because no rate table reprints a water-damaged wedding album.
Every album gets its own plastic sleeve before boxing, because a soaked carton on a porch is survivable for books and fatal for prints.
Two cut-to-size boards sandwiching the stack keep covers from curling and corners from mushrooming under load.
Grandparents in one box, weddings in another. If a box ever goes missing, whole eras do not vanish with it.
Our boxed stack ran $21.77 to $32.23 from Newark, NJ to Atlanta, GA on 2026-07-27 at standard parcel rates. Weight is the driver, and albums are heavier than they look on the shelf.
USPS Domestic Mail Manual 273.3.1 defines the eligible book category as at least eight printed pages consisting wholly of reading matter, and albums of photographs fall outside it. Mailing them as media risks postage-due surprises at delivery.
Slide each album into a plastic bag or wrap, add a rigid sheet on both sides of the stack, and line the carton with a trash bag before packing. Water is the one transit accident photos cannot recover from.
Past twenty-plus pounds, splitting protects the albums and your back. Two mid-weight cartons also let you divide collections logically, and each quotes as its own modest shipment.
