What the signal changes on this site
Every page of smklog.com loads one Google tag, Google Analytics (GA4); the Google Ads conversion tag was removed on 20 October 2026. When navigator.globalPrivacyControl is true, the page sets the tag’s consent defaults to denied for advertising storage, advertising user data, advertising personalization and analytics storage before the first tag command runs. In that mode the tag sets no cookies and sends no identifier that would let a visit be linked to an advertising profile; what remains are cookieless, aggregate pings that the tag sends without consent, and SMKlog treats those as site statistics only. Visitors from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland get the same denied defaults whether or not their browser sends the signal.
The signal is read on each page load, so turning it on takes effect on the next page you open; nothing is stored about your choice on the server. The API host, quote-api.smklog.com, carries no tags at all, and neither do the label, tracking and order pages behind a login.
What SMKlog never did, signal or not
- No personal information is sold, and none is shared with data brokers or advertising networks beyond the Google Analytics tag above.
- No third-party advertising is shown on the site; the calculator and the checkout carry no ad units.
- Names, addresses and emails typed into the calculator go to the carrier, the payment processor and the email provider to fulfil an order, as the subprocessor list and the privacy policy describe, never to the tags.
Scope
The change is in the page markup. It shipped on 19 October 2026 to every page that carries the tag, except a group of guide pages inside a running search-ranking experiment; those received it on 20 October 2026, because the change sits in the page head and leaves the measured text untouched. The privacy policy governs either way.
How to send the signal
Firefox, Brave and DuckDuckGo’s browser can send GPC from their privacy settings; Chrome, Edge and Safari take an extension such as Privacy Badger. The signal’s specification and the current list of browsers are at globalprivacycontrol.org. To check that a page honoured it, open the browser’s developer tools on any smklog.com page with the signal on: no _ga or _gcl cookie is set.
Questions or a report that a page did not honour the signal: info@smklog.com.
