Every moving supply store sells more variants than are useful. These five cover almost every category of household contents; anything past them is a specialty box you should recognize on sight, not stock ahead.

The rule the pros work by: heavy things go in small boxes and light things go in large boxes. Boxes over 50 lb are not moved by hand for long by anyone, and stacking a heavy large box tears the box beneath it once the truck starts moving.
Packed weights that actually survive
Medium under 40 lb
Where kitchens live. Pack heavy items on the bottom (bowls, small appliances) and lighter items on top; do not layer two rows of plates flat in a medium — that is the dish-pack's job.
Large under 50 lb
Bulk without weight. Anything heavier in a large box tears the bottom or the sides, and the person carrying it gets it up two floors before it lets go.
Double-wall boxes and dish-packs handle more, but even they cap around 65 lb before the top compresses under stacked boxes on a truck. The right answer to “can I go heavier” is usually a second small box, not more tape on the current one.
When a moving box ships as a parcel
