How long should I wait after a delivered scan?
USPS draws the line at one postal business day: once more than that has passed since the scan, it says to submit a service request to your local Post Office for eligible items, per faq.usps.com, checked 2026-07-27. A surprising share of these boxes appear within that first day.
Where do mail carriers hide packages?
USPS lists the usual spots on its tracking help page: the garage, the mailbox, the porch, with someone else in the household, areas shielded from weather, and places out of street view such as under a mat or near a back entrance, checked 2026-07-27. Apartment buildings add the management office and parcel lockers to the list.
When does the Missing Mail search open?
Seven days after the mailing date at the earliest, through missingmail.usps.com, and up to 365 days after, per faq.usps.com, checked 2026-07-27. USPS emails status updates while it searches, and a found item is rewrapped and sent on to you.
Is there money back if the package never appears?
Only through a claim on a covered shipment. USPS accepts lost-package claims on Ground Advantage and Priority Mail from day 15 through day 60 after mailing, per usps.com/help/claims.htm, checked 2026-07-27. Labels bought at SMKlog with shipping protection added carry their own declared-value claim path on top; the rules live on our shipping protection page.
