No label to print, no line at checkout — the box ships as soon as you drop it, at the price stamped on the day you bought it.
What "prepaid" and "Forever" each do here
Two separate ideas are stacked into one product. "Prepaid" means the postage is physically affixed to the box or envelope before you ever take it to a carrier — there is no label to print and nothing to weigh, because the price was fixed the moment USPS pre-applied it. "Forever" is the part borrowed from Forever stamps: USPS states on its own Priority Mail page that the product carries “the same Flat Rate pricing with the added convenience of Forever® postage,” meaning the rate you locked in at purchase still ships the box even if USPS raises flat rate prices before you use it. The mechanics of a Forever stamp itself are covered on the Forever stamp price page; this product just applies the same never-expires idea to a box instead of a one-ounce letter.
This is a different kind of "prepaid" than a prepaid shipping label, which is where you buy a label online and email it to someone else so they can ship without paying. A Prepaid Forever box is a physical object you buy in advance for your own future use — nobody else needs to be involved, and no printer is required at either end.
Which sizes are sold this way
USPS's own Prepaid Priority Mail storefront listed seven products on 2026-08-30, and it is the full flat rate lineup, not a shrunken subset: the flat rate envelope at $12.90, the legal envelope at $13.25, the padded envelope at $14.00, the small box at $13.65, the medium box and the side-loading medium box both at $24.80, and the large box at $34.00. Every figure matches what USPS charges to buy the identical size unprepaid at the counter that same day — the full current price sheet by size is on USPS flat rate box prices rather than repeated here, since it changes on its own schedule.
There is no size discount for buying ahead and no size penalty either. Picking prepaid is a decision about timing and convenience, not a different price list.
What the prepaid version leaves out
No built-in coverage
Ordinary Priority Mail carries up to $100 of coverage against loss or damage as part of the price. That line does not extend to the prepaid version either, by the same exception.
No weighing at drop-off
Because the postage is already fixed, there is nothing for the counter clerk to check against a scale. That is the convenience side of the same trade-off: less protection, less friction.
None of that is unusual for the category — a physical Forever stamp does not carry tracking either. It is worth knowing before buying a stack of these for anything you would want a delivery scan on.
One box, priced three ways
We took a parcel sized to the small flat rate box — 8.6 x 5.4 x 1.7 in, 2 lb of small electronics — and ran it through SMKlog's checkout from Berkeley Heights, NJ 07922 to Atlanta, GA 30303 on 2026-08-30, then set the result beside the two USPS-published paths for the same box.

At 2 lb, this box is light for its size, and a by-weight service beats the flat menu the way it usually does for light parcels — Ground Advantage came in at roughly two-thirds of the box's face value. Matching Priority Mail's own 2-3 day speed instead of Ground Advantage's slower one, the by-weight price landed just above the box, at $14.53 against $13.65, and that $14.53 already carries tracking and coverage the box does not. The box wins outright only against the risk of a future rate increase, not against today's price on a light parcel.

Depends on the weight. Our 2026-08-30 checkout capture priced a small-box-sized parcel at 2 lb, Berkeley Heights to Atlanta, at $9.48 all-in on Ground Advantage, well under the $13.65 prepaid small box. Priced by weight on the Priority Mail service itself, the same parcel came to $14.53 all-in, slightly above the box's $13.65 face value.
