How much does USPS pay on a claim?
Up to the coverage the shipment carried and no more than the value you can document. Ground Advantage, Priority Mail and Priority Mail Express include $100 on the base label, per usps.com checked 2026-07-27, and added coverage on eligible classes tops out at $5,000.
Will USPS pay what an item meant to me?
No. DMM 609 section 4.3 lists a claim based solely on sentimental rather than actual value among the situations that are not payable, so the file has to rest on a receipt, an invoice, a bill of sale, a statement of value, a credit card statement or a transaction printout.
What does SMKlog shipping protection cover?
It is optional protection offered with eligible parcel labels through an insurance partner that holds the coverage record. During the pilot it applies to domestic U.S. parcels up to $500 of declared item value, with freight, oversized, restricted and manually reviewed shipments excluded, and the full rules on our shipping protection page.
Can coverage be added after a package ships?
No. Coverage attaches at purchase, which is the only point where the declared value can be set on the label or the optional protection can be bought. Once the parcel is moving, the coverage it left with is the coverage it has.
