Why the counter price moves between stores
The company is explicit about it. Two sentences from its own site do most of the explaining, and both were read on 2026-07-28.

That is the whole answer to why the person behind you paid something different. A franchise sets its own retail prices, adds its own packing and materials charges, and keeps its own hours. Anyone publishing a UPS Store price chart is publishing one store on one day.
A 15 lb carton, priced five ways
We ran a plain 12 x 12 x 12 in carton at 15 lb through our calculator on 2026-07-28, Newark, NJ 07102 to Atlanta, GA 30303. All five rates that came back are printed here in the order the price puts them, with the transit windows exactly as each carrier returned them.

The spread across one box is $11.58, and the fastest row is not the dearest one. UPS Ground quoted 2-3 business days for $6.53 more than the cheapest row, which quoted 8-9. That trade is the entire reason to look at more than one carrier.
One row came back with no transit window at all. UPS Ground Saver frequently returns a price without a stated window, and rather than invent one we print it as blank.
A smaller box on the same lane
