Transit, quantified

Shipping time, calculated from real quotes

"How long will it take" has no single answer, because carriers attach a window to each service on each route. The useful move is seeing those windows next to their prices before you commit. Below are the actual windows carriers returned on 2026-07-27, unedited.

Days and dollars together

Every rate in the calculator arrives with the delivery window its carrier quoted for that specific lane.

What a day costs: one box, five speeds

Here's a 1 lb parcel, about 10 by 8 by 4 inches, quoted from Newark to Atlanta. Same box, same lane, five different clocks. Notice the middle of the menu, where an extra forty cents nearly halves the wait.

Same service, different route, different clock

A service name tells you almost nothing about timing until a route is attached. Watch UPS Ground stretch and shrink across four real lanes we quoted the same day.

The coast-to-coast row doubles the wait and adds dollars at once, and slower tiers feel it even more: FedEx Ground Economy quoted 4-5 business days on a 10 lb Newark to Atlanta box but 7-8 days for the Los Angeles to New York equivalent. Whatever route you're planning, the calculator pulls the current window for it rather than guessing from a zone map.

Get windows for your exact route

Windows are ranges on purpose

A 3-4 day quote means the carrier's network plans for the third day and forgives itself the fourth. Plan around the far edge of the range and you'll rarely be disappointed by a package.

The cutoff hour matters too

Hand a box over after the day's last pickup and the clock starts tomorrow. Dropping off before mid-afternoon usually keeps the quoted window honest from day one.

Cheap and fast sometimes overlap

On short lanes the ground product is often nearly as quick as the premium tier, like the Dallas to Los Angeles rows above where 3-4 days was simply the pace of the lane. Cross-country is where paying up genuinely moves the date.

Transit time questions

How do I calculate shipping time for my package?

Quote the actual route. Delivery windows are set per service per ZIP pair, so a generic map of transit days can miss by half a week. The SMKlog calculator shows the window each carrier attaches to your exact origin and destination alongside its price.

How long is cross-country ground shipping?

Our Los Angeles to New York quotes from 2026-07-27 put UPS Ground and USPS Ground Advantage at 6-7 business days and FedEx Ground Economy at 7-8. Shorter hauls tighten fast: the same UPS Ground service quoted 3-4 days from Newark to Atlanta.

What does a faster delivery window cost?

On our 1 lb Newark to Atlanta box, the slowest tier ran $9.91 at 6-7 business days and the quickest ran $16.58 at 2-3 days. Sometimes the trade is far better: UPS Ground on that lane quoted 3-4 days for $10.31, only forty cents above the slowest option.

Do delivery windows count weekends?

The windows carriers return are business days, so Saturday and Sunday usually don't count. A 3-4 business day quote placed on a Thursday can land the following Wednesday without anything being late.
