Postage, prepaid

Buying a prepaid shipping label for someone else

A prepaid shipping label is paid for before the box ever moves, so whoever tapes it on ships without opening their wallet. That is exactly how SMKlog handles third parties: put their ZIP in as the origin, any delivery address as the destination, pay at checkout, then email them the PDF. Our example below, a 6 lb box leaving Los Angeles for Newark, priced at $20.50 on 2026-07-27.

This quote priced a box leaving Los Angeles while the buyer sat in New Jersey. The same flow covers any pair of US ZIPs.

The box: 14 × 12 × 8 inches of household items at 6 lb, described to the calculator in one line. Prices are the full checkout amount from that day with our margin already inside.

Price a box for your sender

The four steps

First, describe the item and enter the sender’s ZIP plus the delivery ZIP. Second, pick a service from the live list. Third, fill in both street addresses during checkout and pay. Fourth, hit Email Label with the sender’s inbox; they print one page, tape it on, and hand the box to the carrier.

Where this pattern shows up

A parent mailing back the laptop you left at home. A marketplace seller who agreed to ship only if you sorted out the label. A relative clearing a garage with something of yours in it. In each case the person holding the box does the taping, and you do the paying and the tracking.

The box details still have to be true

The label is priced off the weight and dimensions you enter, and carriers re-measure everything. If the packer grabs a bigger box than you quoted, the carrier can report a correction later, which our terms pass through by emailed payment request. Get real measurements before you buy.

Prepaid label questions

What makes a shipping label prepaid?

Payment timing. Every label sold here is settled in full at checkout, so by the time the PDF exists there is nothing left for the sender or the recipient to pay the carrier.

How does the other person actually get the label?

Two ways: use the Email Label button after purchase to send it to any inbox, or download the PDF and forward it yourself. Either way they print a single page, tape it flat, and drop the box off.

Do they need a printer or an account?

No account, ever. They do need the label on paper; if a printer is missing, any document print counter can output the PDF, and our guide on shipping without a printer walks through the options.

Can the delivery go to a third address instead of mine?

Yes. Origin and destination are both free-form, so a label can run from your aunt in Los Angeles straight to a buyer in Miami while you pay from anywhere at all.
