What a PostalAnnex mailbox actually costs
PostalAnnex is a franchise, and like the UPS Store, its corporate pages will not give you a number without naming a branch. The private mailbox rental overview and three location pages checked for this guide carried no pricing at all. One franchisee's own site did: PostalAnnex Irvine publishes three physical mailbox tiers running 25 to 48 USD a month depending on size and term, checked 2026-08-31. Treat that as one real example, not a national rate.

Every branch sets its own rent and its own package allowance.
A CMRA, not a PO Box. A PostalAnnex mailbox is a Commercial Mail Receiving Agency address, not a USPS PO Box, and any carrier can deliver to it. What sets the price
PostalAnnex's corporate site describes the mailbox product — a street address, package acceptance from UPS, FedEx and other couriers held secure until you arrive, and two locks between the street and your mail — without publishing what any of it costs. Checked 2026-08-31: the private mailbox rental overview, the business mailboxes overview, and location pages for Sacramento, San Jose and El Paso all left pricing to a phone call or a store visit.

One location's published tiers
PostalAnnex Irvine is one of the few franchisee sites that lists physical mailbox pricing in a static table rather than behind a phone call. These are its numbers, read 2026-08-31, for context on what the product costs where a branch chooses to disclose it.

The pattern worth noting has nothing to do with the dollar figures themselves: every tier is cheaper per month on the longer term, which is the opposite of how USPS prices a PO Box, where the size and the branch set the rent and the term mostly just changes how often you pay it.

Each tier's included package count is a ceiling, not an average. At the location checked, going over it costs 1 USD per additional package.
Forwarding mail onward
Asking the store to mail your held items to another address is billed apart from the monthly rent: 5 USD per shipping bundle plus postage, at the location checked.
What the sign-up itself involves
Opening a private mailbox is a CMRA transaction, not a Post Office counter visit. PostalAnnex's own private mailbox rental page states that a renter must “Complete USPS Form 1583 provided at the store,” and that a photocopy of identification may be retained by the store as USPS requires. A USPS PO Box skips the notary requirement entirely and uses PS Form 1093 instead, which our PO Boxes Online guide covers. The two products are not interchangeable paperwork, even though both end in a box with your name on it.

PostalAnnex does not publish one national price; franchisees set their own rates. At one location checked 2026-08-31, the smallest physical mailbox ran 25 USD a month paid annually (300 USD for the year) and the largest ran 45 USD a month paid annually (540 USD for the year), on top of a 15 USD one-time setup fee.
Does paying monthly cost more than paying for the year?
At the location checked, yes. Every tier was cheaper per month on the 12-month term than on the 6-month term: the small box ran 25 USD a month annually versus 28 USD a month semi-annually, and the same gap held on the medium and large tiers.
Is there a limit on packages before extra charges kick in?
Yes, at the location checked. Each tier bundled a monthly package count into the price — 10, 20 or 30 packages depending on size — and packages past that count billed at 1 USD each. Mail forwarding is billed separately at 5 USD per shipping bundle plus postage.
Is a PostalAnnex box the same thing as a USPS PO Box?
No. A PostalAnnex box is a Commercial Mail Receiving Agency address with a real street address and a suite or box number, opened on a notarized USPS Form 1583, and any carrier can deliver to it. A USPS PO Box is a locker at a Post Office, opened on PS Form 1093, and only USPS can put mail in it.
Why doesn't PostalAnnex's own website show prices?
