What box should I ship a laptop in?
A sturdy carton around 18 x 12 x 3 inches with two inches of foam or bubble on every face, or the laptop's original retail box floated inside a slightly larger outer carton. The machine must not touch any wall of whichever box meets the truck.
Can I mail a laptop with its battery inside?
Yes. A lithium battery installed in the device it powers travels under the UN3481 provisions, and SMKlog checkout walks you through a short battery confirmation before the label is issued. Loose spare batteries are a different story; see our shipping restrictions page before declaring one.
What did the laptop box cost to ship?
Quoted 2026-07-27, Newark to Atlanta, packed at 8.8 lb: $13.29 USPS Ground Advantage, $20.12 UPS Ground, $25.27 FedEx Ground. Those are checkout totals for that box; a different route or weight moves the numbers.
Should I wipe or back up before shipping?
Back up always; wipe when the machine is changing owners. Carriers move the box, not the data, and a transit loss claim covers hardware value, never the thesis draft on the drive.
