UPS Ground came back at 2-3 business days on every one of those rows. FedEx Express Saver commits to 3 days. On this lane, buying a 3-day express label would have bought a slower promise than the cheapest road service already offered, and that is the mistake this comparison exists to prevent. Express earns its money on long lanes, where the ground clock stretches and the air clock does not.

Under about 5 lb the postal tier wins clearly, by up to $4.70 on these boxes. From roughly 8 lb upward the two are close enough that the box shape decides it, and the FedEx tier took three of the four heavier rows. The transit estimates ran 6-7 business days on Ground Economy and 8-9 on Ground Advantage across this set, so neither is a fast option and the choice really is about price.
On our Newark to Seattle capture a 5 lb box drew ground windows running out to 8-9 business days. That is the gap an express commitment closes. On a Newark to Philadelphia run the same box came back at 1 business day on UPS Ground, and no amount of air spend improves on that.
