eBay shipping label: the built-in flow and the outside one

Sell something on eBay and a label offer appears before you have found the tape. Often that button is the right call, and this page starts by giving eBay its due with facts pulled from its own Seller Center. Then it prices a real sold item the outside way, live on 2026-07-27, because a comparison beats loyalty in either direction.

The buyer sees a tracked package either way. What changes is which rate sheet priced it, so check both when margin matters.

What eBay Labels does, per ebay.com

Everything in this section comes from eBay's Seller Center, checked 2026-07-27, so you are reading the platform's own description rather than our paraphrase of a rumor. The label tool lives where the sale is: find the item under Sold in My eBay or Seller Hub and choose Print shipping label.

Three carriers on the menu

The Seller Center puts it as "Simply select the service from USPS, FedEx or UPS that's best for you and your buyer." Carrier choice inside the flow is real, not a single locked-in network.

Tracking handles itself

Per the same page, "Tracking is uploaded automatically for you and your buyer." That save-a-step is the strongest practical argument for staying inside the platform on routine sales.

A QR code rides along

eBay states that a QR code is automatically emailed with every eBay Labels purchase, and that carrier locations can scan it at a self-service station or have an associate print the label. Printerless sellers are covered.

Pricing is per package

The Seller Center talks about saving over retail rates but publishes no fixed price list on the page we checked, so treat any specific eBay label figure you see quoted elsewhere as unconfirmed until the flow shows it for your box.

A real eBay-style sale, priced outside on 2026-07-27

We told the SMKlog calculator we had sold a vintage leather jacket and gave it Newark, NJ 07102 to Atlanta, GA 30303. It estimated a 17.7 × 11.8 × 5.9 in box at 4.4 lb packed and returned five live services. Prices below are complete checkout totals, unedited.

Production quote from 2026-07-27 for the jacket box described above. The USPS response also carried the carrier's retail comparison value of $17.45 for the identical Ground Advantage shipment.
CarrierServicePriceQuoted transit
USPSGround Advantage$8.546-7 business days
UPSGround Saver$13.654 days quoted
FedExGround Economy$13.674-5 business days
UPSGround$14.053-4 business days
UPS3 Day Select$19.943-4 business days

USPS ran away with this particular box, with the two mid-tier ground services separated by pennies behind it. A clothing sale is USPS-friendly territory; a heavier or longer item redraws the board, which our weight-band guide for eBay sellers maps in detail.

When the eBay button is enough

Routine sale, ordinary box, shipping from your registered address, buyer in no hurry: buy inside the platform and take the automatic tracking upload. Fighting the default here buys you little.

When an outside quote earns its minute

Packages leaving from somewhere other than your usual address, sales settled off-platform, or a listing where postage is eating the profit all justify a second opinion. The comparison costs sixty seconds and ends the guessing.

Selling on more than one app

A seller juggling eBay with Poshmark, Depop or Facebook Marketplace ends up with a different label flow per app. One outside tool that prices any box to any address keeps the multichannel weeks sane.

eBay label questions

Does eBay sell shipping labels directly?

Yes. Per ebay.com’s Seller Center, checked 2026-07-27, you find the sold item in My eBay or Seller Hub, choose Print shipping label, and pick a USPS, FedEx or UPS service, with tracking uploaded automatically for you and your buyer.

How much does an eBay shipping label cost?

eBay prices each label per package and publishes no flat figure on the pages we checked. For scale, our own 2026-07-27 quote for a jacket sale from Newark to Atlanta ran $8.54 to $19.94 across five live services, cheapest being USPS Ground Advantage.

Can I use my own label for an eBay sale instead?

Nothing requires the platform label; postage bought anywhere gets the box to the buyer. You give up the automatic tracking upload, so plan to add the tracking number to the order yourself and weigh that chore against any price gap you found.

What if I have no printer for an eBay label?

Per ebay.com, a QR code is automatically emailed whenever you purchase through eBay Labels, and participating carrier locations print from it at a self-service station or the counter. Labels bought through SMKlog open in a phone-friendly print view instead.
