Length plus girth is the real test

A monitor box can clear a length limit and still fail on the combined figure once the panel gets big.

No battery, but a real customs form still applies

An external monitor runs on wall power. There is no installed lithium-ion pack behind the glass, so none of the watt-hour limits, quantity caps or UN3481 marks that complicate a laptop crossing the same border apply here — a point this site's laptop-to-APO battery guide covers in the other direction. That does not make the shipment paperwork-free. The commercial invoice still wants an honest description — computer monitor, not just electronics — and a value based on what the panel would actually fetch secondhand, not the price on the original receipt.

Where a monitor box sits against Canada's own limit

USPS's own page for Canada, read on pe.usps.com 2026-08-21, sets Priority Mail International's parcel limits at a maximum weight of 66 lb, a maximum length of 79 inches, and a maximum combined length and girth of 108 inches. A modest monitor clears every line with room left. A large ultrawide does not, and it is not the weight that trips it.

Two monitor cartons measured against USPS's Priority Mail International limit for Canada, read 2026-08-21. The 27-inch box is this page's own capture; the 49-inch box's dimensions are this site's own earlier capture, cited by size only, not by price. The arithmetic is ours.

49-inch ultrawide
52 × 21 × 14 in, 42 lb

Length plus girth means the longest side, plus twice the width, plus twice the height. The 49-inch box's own length, 52 inches, sits comfortably under the 79-inch cap on its own, and its 42 lb is nowhere near 66. It is the combined figure — the width and height counted twice — that pushes it 14 inches past the line. Past that figure, Priority Mail International to Canada does not carry it as an ordinary parcel; a wide panel headed abroad is worth measuring before it is worth boxing.

The leg we can actually price

This site's checkout compares USPS, UPS and FedEx for a domestic parcel, and now sells four border crossings outright: Canada, the UK, Germany and Australia, with the customs declaration completed at checkout. For any other destination, the way an international monitor shipment commonly moves is in two bookings: an ordinary domestic parcel to a US address, then a separate international booking from there. We priced the first leg — a 27-inch monitor in its original box, Berkeley Heights, NJ to Miami, FL, a city with a heavy concentration of forwarders — captured live on 2026-08-21.

A 29 × 19 × 9 in, 20 lb monitor box, Berkeley Heights, NJ 07922 to Miami, FL 33101, quoted against production on 2026-08-21. Every price is the full checkout total. This is the domestic leg only, not a quote for the border crossing.

USPS did not return a rate for this box on this run. The site's own monitor packing guide covers why a wide, flat carton runs into carrier surcharge lines even domestically, well before international limits enter the picture.

Where these facts come from

USPS revises per-country limits without notice, and every country sets its own figures — Canada's numbers above do not carry over to another destination. Confirm the current country page before a real send.

Common questions

Can a computer monitor be shipped overseas?

Generally yes. A monitor has no lithium-ion pack to declare, which clears one whole layer of paperwork. The real gatekeeper is the box: a monitor carton is long, thin and light for its size, and that shape is what runs into a carrier's international length limit before the weight does.

Does a monitor need a battery declaration to cross a border?

No. An ordinary external monitor runs on wall power. There is no installed lithium-ion pack, so there is no watt-hour figure to check and no UN3481 mark to add, unlike an Apple MacBook Air 13-inch M2 laptop or an iPhone 15 riding in the same shipment.

What size limit applies to mailing a monitor to Canada?

USPS's own page for Canada, read 2026-08-21, sets Priority Mail International at a 66 lb maximum weight, a 79-inch maximum length, and a 108-inch maximum for length plus girth combined.

Does a 27-inch monitor fit inside that limit?

Yes, comfortably. A 27-inch monitor boxed at 29 by 19 by 9 inches works out to 85 inches of length plus girth against the 108-inch line, with the full 20 lb actual weight far under the 66 lb cap.

What about a large ultrawide monitor?

That is where the limit actually bites. A 49-inch ultrawide boxes at roughly 52 by 21 by 14 inches, which works out to 122 inches of length plus girth, over the 108-inch line to Canada, even though its 42 lb stays well under the weight cap and its 52-inch length alone stays under the 79-inch length cap.
